Failure Analysis, Quality Control, Materials & Process Development

Our independent materials analysis and testing laboratory provides materials characterization, failure analysis, quality assurance, expert witness, and consulting services. Every AME scientist holds a Ph.D. in materials science, chemistry, or physics. We offer XPS surface analysis (or ESCA), wavelength-dispersive XRF, XRD, Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), thermal analysis (TGA, DSC, TMA [for CTE], Thermal Conductivity), FTIR (ATR, specular reflectance), GC-MS with headspace solid-phase micro-extraction, SEM/EDS, UV-Vis absorption & reflectometry, 3D high resolution optical microscopy, surface profiling and roughness measurements, mechanical testing, hardness testing, and electrical conductivity measurements. Analyses of metals, semiconductors, polymers, organic and inorganic chemicals, glasses, ceramics, and composite materials are performed. Specialties include corrosion and materials degradation, adhesive bond failures, surface chemistry and contamination, thin films and coatings analyses, elemental composition, materials identifications, and thermal properties. Reports are provided which emphasize addressing your materials problem or opportunity and carefully explaining our analysis results so you will know your materials better, rather than simply providing you an expensive pile of spectra and references to documents you do not have. Our customers are primarily commercial firms, though we do work for universities and government agencies also.
